How CareerPilot licensing, device slots, and the 30-day removal lock work

Published August 8, 2026 · CareerPilot

A technical explanation of CareerPilot account keys, plan device caps, revoke vs remove, and why device slots stay locked for 30 days.

Every CareerPilot customer has an account key. The desktop app and the website dashboard both use that key to ask the licensing API whether the subscription is active and how many devices may run at once.

Plan device caps

Each plan defines MaxDevices. The dashboard counts non-revoked devices against that cap. Empty slots equal max devices minus active devices. If the API omits a max, the site falls back to 5 devices when the plan name contains “5”, otherwise 1.

Revoke versus remove

  • Revoke immediately blocks that machine from using the license.
  • Remove deletes the device from the account so a new machine can take the slot.

Removal is eligible only after 30 days from RegisteredAtUtc. That lock reduces slot-sharing abuse. The dashboard shows remaining days until a device can be removed.

Where to manage this

Signed-in customers use Dashboard. Administrators manage global devices under the admin console. Public crawlers should not index those authenticated pages.
